How to use the two files

The layout guide shows the numbered zones and their pixel sizes, so you can match them in your own signage software. The clean background has the same panels with no text, so it is the one to use behind your content. For a single-zone slide, design on the clean background in any image editor and export a JPEG or PNG at the full screen size (1920 x 1080 or 1080 x 1920).

Tips for restaurant screens

Viewing distance.
Typically, guests read a menu board from 8 to 20 feet away while standing in line. Keep item names large, and drop descriptions once a column gets crowded.
What goes where.
Use the columns for categories such as starters and mains. Use the feature zone for the daily special, use the ticker for combos and hours, and keep allergen notes on a fixed part of the board.
Prices.
Align prices in one column and use the same number format everywhere. Round numbers and no currency symbol on every line keep a board calm.
Food photos.
Show one or two dishes at a time in the feature zone. Bright, tightly cropped photos read better from across the room than wide shots.
